GENEVA: The World Health Organisation will kick off its first-ever virtual assembly to discuss the coronavirus crisis today.
The World Health Assembly, which has been trimmed from the usual three weeks to just two days i.e. Monday and Tuesday, is expected to focus almost solely on COVID-19.
A number of heads of state, government chiefs, health ministers and other dignitaries are expected to attend the meeting, which is due to kick off around noon on Monday.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus last week decided that the event would be one of the most important since we were founded in 1948.
However, the chance of reaching an agreement on global measures to address the crisis could be threatened by steadily deteriorating relations between the world’s two largest economies over the pandemic.
The WHO had warned that new coronavirus may never go away. According to the organization, people around the world will gradually learn to live with the virus that was first emerged in China’s Wuhan city late last year.
As some countries around the world begin gradually easing lockdown restrictions imposed in a bid to stop the novel coronavirus from spreading, the WHO said it may never be wiped out entirely.
