ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will chair a meeting today to discuss the resumption of train services across the country.
The prime minister will hold the important meeting in Islamabad at 3 pm where the final decision will be taken regarding operating trains under standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The Ministry of Railways announced to operate 30 trains before Eid. Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed will brief the prime minister on the preparations of the railway.
The meeting will decide whether to run the trains under SOPs or not. During the last meeting, the Sindh and Balochistan governments had opposed the resumption of train operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Railways Minister earlier on Saturday announced that ticket prices will also be reduced by 50-60 percent once trains resume operations, even though the move will land the ministry in a loss.
“Railways do not only belong to Punjab, but to the entire country. I appeal to the prime minister to resume train operations. We are going into a deficit because this is a means of transportation for the poor,” he said.
