The father of 28-year-old Asma Jattak was shot dead in Balochistan’s Khuzdar district in an ongoing dispute over refusal of marriage proposal. The incident comes after the earlier killings of her fiancé and uncle, adding to a long-running family dispute.
The victim, Master Inayatullah Jattak, was killed by gunfire while leaving his home to offer Asr prayers. The incident occurred just a day after Asma Jattak posted a video message on social media, holding the Quran and appealing to the government for protection for her family.
According to police, the incident took place on Tuesday in Shahzad Town, Khuzdar. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khuzdar Dostain Dashti confirmed the killing and said the motives behind the attack are being investigated.
The victim’s son, Attaullah Jattak, alleged that a man named Zahoor Jamalzai carried out the attack. He claimed that the suspect arrived in a vehicle, opened fire, and fled the scene.
According to him, the suspect had allegedly been trying to forcibly marry Asma Jattak for several years and had repeatedly threatened the family after they refused the proposal.
Attaullah said that his father had received threats a day before the attack, including a warning that if they did not agree to the marriage proposal, they should “prepare a shroud for themselves.” He said these threats prompted Asma to record a video appeal to the Balochistan chief minister, police chief, and other authorities, requesting protection for her father and brother.
The family said the dispute has continued for 13 years. They claimed that Asma’s fiancé, Abdul Salam, was killed in 2013, while Asma was allegedly abducted in February 2025. She was later recovered following government intervention, but the family alleges that the suspect was not arrested.
Relatives further claimed that Asma’s uncle, Muhammad Ashraf, was also killed in November 2025 while protesting, and that with the latest incident, the number of deaths linked to the dispute has risen to six.
Attaullah Jattak, a lecturer at the University of Lasbela and a PhD scholar, said he had submitted multiple applications to the governor, chief minister, inspector general of police, and other relevant authorities, but claimed no effective action was taken.
Meanwhile, SSP Khuzdar Dostain Dashti said police had not received any formal request for protection from the family. He added that the incident was being investigated from all angles.
