Lahore: In a significant crackdown, Lahore police have arrested a suspended police constable, Ijaz Ali, for attempting to smuggle and supply the drug “ice” (crystal meth) into Punjab University while wearing his uniform.
According to a police spokesperson, the officer had already been placed on close line (suspended from duty) some time ago, yet he tried to exploit his uniform to avoid suspicion and gain access to the campus.
The DIG Operations confirmed that Ijaz was previously posted at the Investigation Wing office, and further investigations are underway to trace other members of the narcotics network, possibly operating within or outside the force.
Spokesperson Faisal Kamran praised the Iqbal Town police team for their swift and effective action, stating that an intelligence-based crackdown against drug peddlers is in full swing.
He added that the department is enforcing internal accountability and constant monitoring, emphasizing that “one criminal in uniform brings shame to the entire police force.”
Kamran reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy is being implemented against any officers involved in criminal activity, particularly those misusing the police uniform for illegal acts.
