The Punjab government has announced that 10,000 electric bikes (e-bikes) will be distributed free of cost to deserving male and female students across the province under a new welfare initiative.
The decision was finalized during a meeting of the sub-committee of the Punjab Zakat and Ushr Council, chaired by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah.
The meeting was attended by Senator Dr. Ghaus Muhammad Khan Niazi, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Parliamentary Secretary Zubair Ahmed, and other relevant officials.
It was unanimously agreed that the free e-bikes would be provided exclusively to students who are beneficiaries of Zakat.
Rashid Iqbal Nasrullah announced that 2,000 e-bikes will be distributed in the first phase, with more to follow. He said the initiative is being launched on the direct instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who has prioritized student mobility and empowerment.
He also hinted at more upcoming welfare projects aimed at improving the lives of Zakat beneficiaries.
Earlier, the Punjab government had also introduced a markup-free installment plan for providing petrol and electric bikes to students, which is running separately from this Zakat-based distribution program.
