SKARDU: At least 21 people were killed and another four sustained injures when a passenger coaster plunged into the River Indus in Rondu tehsil of Skardu district.
The spokesperson of Gilgit-Baltistan Faizullah Firaq confirmed the news of deaths that occurred in the incident. He informed that the passenger coaster was travelling from Rawalpindi to Skardu and almost 25 people were onboard.
He further said that so far nine bodies have been retrieved, while rescue operation is underway in the area. He also informed that a contingent of Pakistan Army is taking part in the relief and the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, the Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister has expressed grief over the dreadful road accident and has given orders for an investigation into the incident.
The rescue officials informed that the reason for the crash could not be ascertained according to the initial reports.
