Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Monday expressed his anger over Imran Khan’s latest statement about COAS appointment, saying the PTI chief must not expect relief from the Court if he continues to give such statements.
Justice Minallah heard a petition against a PEMRA ban on the live broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches.
Wrapping up a plea against a ban on live telecast of PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches, the Court directed PEMRA to act as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
“You are making it difficult for yourself with such remarks,” CJ Athar Minahllah said “What message are you giving to the world through these statements?”
Justice Minallah remarked that such remarks do not fall under Article 19 of the Constitution that endorses right to freedom of speech.
The court suspended the PEMRA order at the last hearing and Justice Minallah today disposed of the petition.
Justice Minallah said that no one had the right to declare who was a patriot and who was not.
The court remarked that every citizen is bound to act as per law and such remarks will have repercussions and political leaders should give statements keeping in view that they would also made an impact on their followers.
The IHC top judge also lamented that Pakistan was drowning in floods and “such things” were being discussed at this time.
