NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council has issued a strong condemnation of the August 2 suicide bombing near Kabal police station in Swat, which killed 17 people including seven police officers and left 23 others wounded.
In a press statement released here this evening, the 15-member council denounced “the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack” and expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s government and people, while calling for sustained international cooperation to combat terrorism.
The statement emphasized that terrorism in all its forms constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and reiterated the need for persistent counterterrorism efforts.
Council members stressed the importance of holding perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of terrorist acts accountable, while ensuring such accountability efforts align with international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian standards.
The UNSC underlined that only states can combat all terrorist groups effectively, and called on all nations to strengthen security measures, prevent terrorist recruitment and financing, and enhance information-sharing across borders.
