KARACHI: The investigation into the death of 25-year-old entrepreneur and IBA graduate Mir Raza Ali took a dramatic turn after his parents flatly refused to permit the exhumation of his body and a second post-mortem, following an unannounced midnight overhaul of the court-sanctioned medical board.
The development comes shortly after a Karachi judicial magistrate ordered the exhumation and fresh autopsy following severe criticism of the initial post-mortem report by Karachi Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, who highlighted 14 major deficiencies—including missing X-rays and unexamined wound trajectories.
Sudden Reconstitution of Medical Board
According to official sources, the medical board constituted for the exhumation was abruptly reduced from an eight-member panel to a five-member board overnight.
With the sole exception of Dr. Summaiya Syed, all original members were removed and replaced:
Prof. Dr. Zakiuddin (Dow University of Health Sciences)
Dr. Qazi Akbar (Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro)
Dr. Abid Hussain Chang (Pathologist)
Dr. Waseem (Police Surgeon, Hyderabad)
Family Refuses Exhumation, Alleges Interference
Expressing outrage over the sudden restructuring, Mir Raza Ali’s father, Mir Hussain Ali, declared that the family would no longer allow the grave to be exhumed or grant permission for a second post-mortem.
“We were fully prepared to cooperate with the court’s order for exhumation to get justice, but the medical board was stealthily changed in the dark of night,” Mir Hussain told reporters. “We will not give permission to this newly formed board, nor will we allow our son’s grave to be disturbed under these suspicious circumstances.”
Mir Hussain reiterated his stand that the narrative is being actively manipulated to protect influential figures involved in his son’s death.
Revealing further physical observations made during the deceased’s final rites, the father stated that Raza Ali bore visible head injuries observed during his ritual bath (ghusl) and that the skin on his palms was entirely stripped off, pointing toward physical torture prior to his death.
Background & Ongoing Controversy
Raza Ali vanished from his PECHS residence on the morning of July 28 after leaving in an online taxi. His decomposed body was discovered two days later in bushes near Gulistan-e-Jauhar with a single .30-bore gunshot wound to the chest.
While investigators have repeatedly leaned toward a suicide narrative—citing financial distress and crypto-trading losses—the family maintains he was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered.
Interestingly, the ongoing investigation has seen multiple anomalies, including:
– An empty .30-bore holster and phone recovered hundreds of yards from the body, but zero spent bullet casings found at the site.
– CCTV footage showing a motorcycle stopping at the dump site for just 20 seconds at 3:36 a.m. on July 29.
– The abrupt deactivation of all of Raza Ali’s social media accounts 24 hours prior to his body being found.
With the family withdrawing consent for exhumation over concerns of institutional bias, the high-profile case remains stalled in a deadlock between investigators and the grieving family.
