KARACHI: The city police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested two suspected militants linked with proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to foil their plot to commit acts of terrorism in the metropolis.
According to details, the police in an intelligence-based operation arrested two TTP militants and recovered two hand grenades from their possession.
A police spokesperson has said that the arrested suspects were native of South Waziristan region and returned from Afghanistan after getting training of sabotage and terrorism.
“The father and two brothers of arrested suspect Naimatullah were also affiliated with the TTP”, the police said, adding, “One of his brothers, Barkatullah has been arrested, while another brother Amanullah was killed in a police encounter in 2014. ”
The police spokesperson further informed that the arrested suspects had killed man Mehtab, suspecting him an informer of the police.
On August 13, the Ibrahim Hyderi police arrested two militants linked with proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The suspects were identified as Amirzada alias Mukhlis and Taj Wali.
A spokesman for the Malir police said that acting on a tip-off, an action was carried out in the Ibrahim Hyderi area in which two TTP militants were arrested and arms along with 10kg explosive material were seized from them.
He said Mukhlis had joined the TTP in 2001. His associates — Jehad Yar, Amin Jana, Mullah Usman, Abdullah alias Mullah, Mir Rehman alias Haji and Fazl Rehman alias Abu Khalid — all were killed in encounters with security forces at different times.
Taj Wali had joined the TTP in 2009 on the direction of its local ‘commander’, Qari Qayyum, the spokesman said, adding that the suspect was involved in acts of terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan at different times.
