The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the National Emergency Operation Center (NEOC) have warned of three separate heat wave occurrences expected to take place in May and June.
According to NDMA, regions including Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tindullah Yar, Matiari, and Sanghar are anticipated to experience severe heat conditions.
“Both Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan districts are identified as susceptible to heat waves,” NDMA stated in an advisory released in preparation for the upcoming summer season heat.
As outlined in the advisory, temperatures could soar to 40 degrees Celsius from May 15th to the 30th.
The initial heat wave episode is projected to last two to three days, with a subsequent wave forecasted to persist for four to five days by the end of May.
Temperatures are expected to rise to 45 degrees Celsius in June. A NDMA spokesperson mentioned a potential third heat wave period within the first ten days of June.
The anticipated third heat wave is estimated to span 3 to 5 days, according to NDMA.
NDMA has highlighted the vulnerability of humans and other living organisms to heat waves, advising precautionary measures prior to the expected heat waves across the nation.
The second heat wave event is predicted to extend for four to five days. The third occurrence is anticipated to impact Tharparkar, Umarkot, Sanghar, Badin, and Khairpur. During heatwaves, afternoon land temperatures tend to surpass air temperatures due to land retaining heat.
