LARKANA: Police have arrested a cleric accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old student in Larkana, Express Tribune reported on Thursday.
The child’s father, Baghan Chandio, revealed that his son regularly attended Khalid Bin Waleed mosque near their home in Larkana city.
According to the filed police report, a relative of Baghan caught the mosque teacher ‘in the act’. The victim’s father mentioned that the perpetrator hailed from the same Chandio tribe and was caught red-handed during the assault while Baghan’s brother and cousin arrived at the mosque for prayers.
“The teacher managed to flee,” lamented Baghan.
Expressing his distress, Baghan stated that his son, a third-grader, was deeply affected by the incident. He also revealed that the accused’s family members tried to dissuade them from pursuing legal action, proposing a private settlement.
“We face pressure but will not relent in seeking justice for my son,” expressed the grieving father.
The incident garnered widespread outrage on social media, with demands for swift and severe punishment for the perpetrator.
In a separate incident in April, authorities arrested a suspect who allegedly assaulted a minor boy during Itikaf in Muzaffargarh. The 13-year-old victim was observing Itikaf when another individual, also in Itikaf, reportedly assaulted him. The suspect evaded capture initially, with the mosque’s imam claiming intimidation.
