(REUTERS): Incumbent US President Donald Trump appeared to acknowledge Democrat rival Joe Biden’s victory publicly for the first time but claimed still claimed the US Election 2020 was “rigged”.
Biden defeated Trump by winning a series of battleground states that the Republican incumbent had won in 2016. Joe Biden also won the national popular vote by more than 5.5 million votes or 3.6 percentage points.
“He won because the Election was Rigged. No vote watchers or observers allowed, vote tabulated by a Radical Left privately owned company,” Trump tweeted in his clearest admission of defeat to date.
He won because the Election was Rigged. NO VOTE WATCHERS OR OBSERVERS allowed, vote tabulated by a Radical Left privately owned company, Dominion, with a bad reputation & bum equipment that couldn’t even qualify for Texas (which I won by a lot!), the Fake & Silent Media, & more! https://t.co/Exb3C1mAPg

Trump has refused to concede the election, and repeatedly said he intended to overturn the result through legal cases — though no evidence of mass fraud in the November 3 election has been found.
Later in the day, however, the president reiterated his claim of the elections being rigged and said, “He only won in the eyes of the fake news media. I concede nothing! We have a long way to go. This was a rigged election!”

Earlier on Saturday, thousands of Trump supporters rallied in Washington, backing his claims of fraud, with clashes erupting in the evening with rival protesters. At least 20 people were arrested, reports said, including four for firearm violations and one for assault on a police officer.
