LAHORE: Broiler chicken prices in both Peshawar and Lahore markets have recently undergone a slight decrease, offering some relief to consumers following a previous surge in prices.
In Lahore, there has been a notable reduction in broiler meat prices, amounting to a decrease of 15 rupees per kilogram. Presently, the retail price for broiler chicken meat stands at 580 rupees per kilogram, while the wholesale rate for live broiler is set at 370 rupees per kilogram.
Similarly, Peshawar has also seen a decline in prices over the past two days. Previously priced at 450 rupees per kilogram, the cost of live broiler chicken has now dropped by 30 rupees to 420 rupees per kilogram.
Despite the downward trend in poultry prices, egg prices have seen a slight uptick, with an increase of 2 rupees per dozen, bringing the current price to 239 rupees.
Meanwhile, in response to the escalating prices of broiler chicken, the Punjab Food Ministry has taken action by implementing a ban on the export of chicks. This measure aims to mitigate further price increases in the market.
Reports indicate that the Livestock Department has formulated a proposal for this ban, which has been submitted to the Punjab government for review and consideration.
