The Russian Defense Minister Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu recently raised concerns about the increasing danger of terrorism coming from Afghanistan, saying it poses a big problem for peace and stability in the region.
Since the Afghan Taliban took control in 2021, Afghanistan has become a haven for extremist groups, making it easier for them to cause trouble and create chaos.
“The situation in Afghanistan has sadly turned into a paradise for terrorists,” said the Defense Minister, stressing how serious the problem has become. The Afghan Taliban’s support for groups like Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has made tensions worse, spreading insecurity across the region.
The Defense Minister also pointed out how Afghanistan’s terrorism affects neighboring Pakistan. He mentioned incidents where Afghan militants were caught in Pakistan and revealed information about their activities. This, he said, shows that the Afghan Taliban isn’t serious about fighting terrorism.
The issue was discussed internationally too, during a meeting of defense ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Kazakhstan. They talked about how terrorism from Afghanistan is spreading globally and called for urgent action to stop it.
Despite promises from the Afghan Taliban to not attack other countries, terrorism from Afghanistan continues. The Defense Minister’s strong stance shows that the international community is starting to recognize Afghanistan as a source of extremist violence.
With the threat of terrorism growing, the Defense Minister urged quick action from the international community to stop attacks on Afghan soil. He warned that if this problem isn’t dealt with soon, it could lead to more dangerous terrorism, putting the security of the entire region at risk.
