ISLAMABAD: While presiding over the Muharram security review meeting, the concerned authorities have decided to take strict action against those who spread religious hatred and sectarianism on social media during Muharram under the Fourth Schedule.

According to details, details of fake social media accounts operated from abroad have also been collected in this regard. Punjab Police and FIA Cyber Crime Wing will take joint action. Assistance will also be sought from Interpol.

Relevant sources informed that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will also file cybercrime cases against account holders for posting religious hate posts.

Initially, Rawalpindi police had provided details of 17 Pakistani account holders to the FIA who are uploading posts on social media regarding religious hatred and sectarianism.

Sources further informed that the FIA Cyber Crime Wing has taken immediate action and blocked all those accounts. “Investigation has also been initiated against these account holders,” sources added.

Earlier on August 7, Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare, Raja Basharat ordered to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on cybercrime and religious hate content on social media.

The minister further said that the government was grateful to all the religious leaders for their exemplary role and cooperation in promoting religious harmony in the country. He hoped that this ideal harmony would be maintained during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Calling Rangers and banning pillion riding and mobile phones during Ashura was also under consideration, the minister told the participants of the meeting.
