The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has issued a directive to government schools to collect free textbooks from students after annual examinations and store them in the Book Banks.
According to a spokesperson, the policy aims to promote sustainability, reduce printing costs, and ensure availability of books for future students.
The initiative covers all levels, from primary to higher secondary schools, and emphasizes the careful use of textbooks throughout the academic year.
Teachers have been instructed to encourage students to take good care of their books, while schools must maintain detailed records of returned textbooks and note returns in students’ report cards. Collected books will be stored in school Book Banks for reuse.
The Provincial Education Minister highlighted that at least 50% of textbooks should be returned, warning that officials failing to meet this target could face action.
District education officers are required to submit stock records to regional directors, ensuring efficient monitoring of the program. This move addresses rising printing costs and growing student enrollment in Sindh.
