The Sindh Education Department has prepared a new policy to address staffing imbalances in schools, which includes proposals for a “golden handshake” scheme for surplus teachers and administrative reforms in the recruitment process.
Under the proposed policy, teachers identified as surplus in schools with excess staff compared to student enrollment may be offered voluntary early retirement through a golden handshake program.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said that the actual and accurate number of teachers and students will be determined only after the completion of a biometric verification process based on facial recognition.
He added that once surplus staff are identified, affected teachers will have the option to accept the voluntary golden handshake package and opt for early retirement.
These proposed measures are part of broader efforts to rationalize staffing levels in educational institutions and improve the fair distribution of resources within the department.
The education minister also announced a plan to delegate the recruitment authority for lower-grade employees to school headmasters. Under this proposal, headmasters will be empowered to hire support staff, including guards, gardeners, and office attendants.
