LAHORE: Police reported that a woman who travelled to Lahore from Muridke following a domestic dispute was allegedly gang-raped. One suspect has been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the second accused.
According to police, the woman came to Lahore after a domestic dispute. A rickshaw driver allegedly offered to help her find shelter and dropped her off at the house of his friend, identified as Hanif.
Police stated that shortly after the rickshaw driver left, Hanif allegedly restrained the woman by chaining her up and holding her hostage.
Hanif subsequently called his friend Karim to the house, and the two suspects allegedly subjected the woman to sexual assault.
The woman reportedly managed to find an opportunity to contact the police emergency helpline (15) and reported the incident.
Following the complaint, the Shalimar Police registered a case against Hanif and arrested him, while further investigation is underway.
The second suspect, Karim, fled the scene, and police teams have been formed to trace and arrest him.
SP Civil Lines (Manza Karamat) stated that no leniency would be shown to those involved in violence and sexual assault against women. She added that efforts are underway to arrest the fleeing suspect at the earliest and bring him to justice.
Police officials confirmed that further investigation into the case is ongoing and all related evidence is being gathered.
