Islamabad: Amid the continued rise in petroleum product prices, the government has decided to provide financial relief to motorcycle users to help ease the burden on the public. Under the proposed scheme, eligible motorcyclists are expected to receive approximately Rs2,000 in monthly assistance.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the launch of a special relief scheme for motorcyclists.
The initiative is initially proposed to remain in place for three months. However, its duration could be extended depending on developments in the Middle East and the availability of government funds.
Government sources say the proposed financial assistance is intended to reduce the additional burden on motorcycle owners resulting from the sharp increase in petrol prices.
At present, a monthly payment of around Rs2,000 is under consideration. The final amount, as well as other details of the scheme, will be determined after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gives final approval.
For the time being, the proposed scheme does not cover people who rely on public transport or owners of small cars.
Critics argue that the limited scope of the initiative may not significantly ease overall inflationary pressures, as higher transportation costs also contribute to an increase in the prices of essential commodities.
