The Sindh government has announced a major expansion of Karachi’s public transport system, introducing a large fleet of double-decker and electric (EV) buses aimed at improving urban mobility and passenger convenience.

According to Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, a significant number of new buses are expected to arrive in the city within the current year.

These buses will be gradually deployed on multiple routes to provide improved and more efficient travel facilities for residents.

He stated that the provincial government is rapidly advancing its vision to modernise public transport infrastructure. Following the success of the Peoples Bus Service, electric buses and double-decker vehicles are now being integrated into the wider urban transport network.

The senior minister added that these initiatives are not limited to transport upgrades alone but also represent a broader direction for Karachi’s future development. He emphasised that the government is committed to providing safer, better-quality, and more reliable commuting options for citizens.

Mr Memon noted that electric buses will offer environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and comfortable travel, while the introduction of additional double-decker buses will enhance capacity and contribute to the city’s evolving transport culture and visual identity.

He further stated that the initiative marks a new phase in Karachi’s development journey, with the aim of aligning the city’s public transport system with international standards.
