Islamabad: Pakistan Railways, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has successfully completed the second preliminary market consultation for the Karachi-Rohri section of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgrade project.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the important consultation was attended by 134 participants representing national and international contractors, consultants, equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
The upgradation of the Karachi-Rohri section of ML-1 is a priority project of the Government of Pakistan, aimed at modernising railway infrastructure and improving the safety, capacity, efficiency and reliability of railway operations.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, preparations for the project are being expedited.
During the consultation, participants shared their views and recommendations on various technical, administrative and procurement-related aspects of the project. Their input is expected to help develop an effective procurement strategy and further strengthen the project preparation process.
The strong participation of market representatives and the constructive exchange of views made the consultation a productive and meaningful exercise.
Pakistan Railways expects continued engagement with the market to support a competitive, transparent and efficient procurement process. The initiative is also expected to help deliver better and sustainable outcomes for the Government of Pakistan, development partners, industry stakeholders and, most importantly, the public.
