The Sindh High Court has suspended Karachi University’s decision to cancel the degree of Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri. The court, while giving important remarks in the case, adjourned further hearing until November 20.

According to details, a hearing was held in the Sindh High Court on the petition filed by Islamabad High Court’s Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri against Karachi University’s cancellation of his degree.

Registrar of Karachi University, Professor Imran Siddiqui, appeared before the court. The court suspended Karachi University’s decision to cancel Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri’s degree.

The court also barred further action on the recommendations of the Syndicate and the Unfair Means Committee.

During the hearing, Karachi University’s Registrar, Professor Imran Siddiqui, appeared in court and stated that they received the notice two days ago, and requested time to submit a reply.

Justice Iqbal Kalhoro asked how much time was required to file a reply. On this, the defense counsel said that time should be granted to file a reply, but until then the degree cancellation order should be suspended.

The court remarked that if action was taken against the petitioner during this period, then who would compensate for the damage later?

Justice Iqbal Kalhoro said, “Here, the lifelong earnings of a person are at stake. In the matter of the degree, was the affected party given a notice?” The Registrar replied that he was newly posted and had no knowledge of the matter.

Justice Iqbal Kalhoro further said that it may be possible that action against the petitioner was taken due to personal interest. If a petition is filed after 30 to 35 years, the affected person must necessarily be heard.

The court remarked that any decision made without hearing both parties holds no significance; a one-sided decision cannot be called a good judgment. The Sindh High Court granted time to both parties to submit their replies and adjourned further hearing until November 20.
