In the second incident of its kind within a week, another flight steward from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), identified as Jibran Baloch, reportedly ‘slipped away’ while on duty in Canada.
PIA spokesperson confirmed the steward’s disappearance, revealing that Jibran Baloch was assigned to work on flight PK-782 but failed to report for duty. Despite an extensive search by PIA staff at his hotel room, Baloch was nowhere to be found. Authorities, including Toronto police and the border security force, have been informed of the incident.
This marks the second instance of a PIA employee ‘slipping’ from duty in Canada this week. Notably, at least 12 PIA employees have disappeared while on duty abroad.
Earlier this week, PIA initiated an investigation into the disappearance of air hostess Maryam Raza in Canada. Maryam, assigned to flight PK-782 from Islamabad to Toronto, failed to report back after the flight’s return. Concerns grew as her uniform and a note reading ‘Thank you PIA’ were found in her room, despite her not being on duty for the return flight PK-784 from Toronto to Karachi.
The PIA spokesperson acknowledged the challenges in such matters, citing the difficulty in preventing individuals from staying in Canada due to lenient laws. An inquiry into Maryam Raza’s case has been initiated, and if required, she may face dismissal. PIA is collaborating with the Canadian Border Services Agency to curb such incidents, despite previous measures yielding limited success.
