An army captain and a soldier were martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the general area Hassan Khel of Peshawar district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the reported presence of terrorists, the military’s media wing said on Sunday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations said that Captain Hussain Jahangir, 25, a resident of the Rahim Yar Khan district, and Havildar Shafiq Ullah, 36, a resident of the Karak district, were martyred during the operation.
At least five terrorists were killed while three terrorists got injured, it said, and added that a sanitization operation was carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area.
“Security forces of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.”
Earlier this month, the army said 29 terrorists have been killed in a series of operations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border over the past month.
“In addition to other areas along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, security forces have been conducting operations in the general area Sambaza in Zhob district of Balochistan, since April 21, 2024. As a result of effective engagements, 29 terrorists have been successfully neutralized by the security forces in the past month,” said the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, in a statement issued on May 22.
Such actions were part of a broader effort to curb the infiltration of terrorists targeting both security forces and civilians.
