Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javed was re-arrested by the police on Monday following her release on bail from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
The initial bail was granted in connection to a case involving the arson of the PML-N office, with Sanam Javed posting surety bonds of Rs200,000. However, she has now been taken into custody by the Shadman police in a separate case (case no 768) under terrorism charges.
Sanam Javed faces multiple cases, including those related to Zaman Town vandalism, the PML-N house fire, and the Race-course police station case. These charges stem from the unrest that occurred after the May 9 riots across Pakistan following the arrest of the former prime minister and PTI founder from the Islamabad High Court premises.
In a recent development, a divisional bench of the Supreme Court overturned the Lahore High Court’s rejection of PTI leaders’ nomination papers, directing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to include the names of allowed PTI candidates in the ballot boxes. Sanam Javed has been permitted to contest elections from NA-119, NA-120, and PP-125.
