ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi has said that 783,039 new taxpayers filed returns with the tax department as a result of various schemes.
Shabbar Zaidi said this while briefing the meeting regarding the performance of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Chairman FBR Shabbaar Zaidi gave the prime minister a detailed briefing on the past year’s performance and reforms.
According to him, the revenue year 2019 shows a 14.65 percent increase as compared to the previous year. The number of filers has increased by more than 7 million this year.
The Prime Minister was informed that the number was 1514817 in 2017, which has now reached 2561099. The domestic tax collection has seen a 28 percent increase.
Chairman FBR told the Prime Minister that all stages including registration, tax certificate issuance, tax return submission and audit are being automated and computerized so that FBR personnel will be personally involved in this process.
He said that the online system has been made more effective for redressing public grievances, complaints about FBR personnel can be resolved immediately.
Chairman FBR said that refunds worth Rs 16 billion have been returned from previous years, 17 billion would be released by the end of this month.
