KARACHI: Police have claimed a major breakthrough in the murder case involving a woman and her three children in Karachi’s Surjani Town, with a close relative of the deceased woman taken into custody.
West Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Irfan Baloch said during a press conference that investigators had made significant progress in the case. According to the police, the suspect, identified as Humayun, the brother-in-law of the deceased woman’s husband, has been arrested in connection with the killings.
Police said the alleged murder weapon was also recovered from the suspect. During preliminary questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing the woman and her three children over a personal dispute. Authorities said his statement is being examined alongside other evidence.
According to police sources, the suspect was known to the victims and had previously lived in the same family’s house as a tenant for some time.
Investigators reached the suspect after questioning the victims’ family members, acquaintances and other individuals. He was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.
The incident came to light after the bodies of a woman identified as Mahwish and her three children were found inside a house in Sector 7-D, Surjani Town.
Following the incident, police launched an investigation into several possible motives and initially examined the possibility of a robbery. Officials said further investigation is underway and the suspect’s statement, forensic evidence and other aspects of the case are being examined.
