Rickshaws, motorcycles and buses in Karachi will face strict fines for disregarding news lane rules on Shahrah-e-Faisal as the Karachi Traffic Police rolls out a traffic management plan to improve flow on the busy corridor.
Under the initiative, motorbikes and rickshaws could be fined Rs2,500, while buses may face penalties of up to Rs7,500 for violating designated lanes. Announced by DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, the plan introduces separate lanes for slower and faster vehicles, with enforcement set to begin after a public awareness campaign.
According to officials, the system will first be implemented on Shahrah-e-Faisal, where surveillance cameras are already operational.
A month-long awareness campaign will begin before strict enforcement starts on June 1, giving commuters time to adjust to the new rules.
Under the plan, motorbikes, rickshaws, buses and other light transport vehicles, including Mazdas, must use the two leftmost lanes.
The remaining lanes will be reserved for faster-moving vehicles such as cars and double-cabin pickups.
Violations will be monitored through existing cameras, with e-tickets issued automatically. Fines have been set at Rs2,500 for motorbikes and rickshaws, and Rs7,500 for buses.
