Resolving Karachi’s issues

The 20 million people of Karachi, the biggest and the most diverse city of Pakistan, have been facing various problems for a long time. Water scarcity, power outrage and worst sewerage system are some of the major issues and the whole city seems to be trapped under the detrimental impacts of such problems.
Recently, almost 19 people have lost their lives over the past four days as torrential rains wreaked havoc in the metropolis. Meanwhile, the power supply was disrupted and technical glitches that popped up in various localities were not fixed. some parts of these cities were also flooded by rainwater that gathered due to choked drains and nullahs.
In this regard, the Prime Minister signed a summary authorising the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Frontier Works Organisation to carry out a cleanliness drive in Karachi with unlimited funds and long-term role of the federal and military organisations.
Mayor Karachi had always complained about the funds and powers. On the other hand, the provincial government blames Mayor Karachi for the increasing problems. Unfortunately, the Karachi has not received justice. One should keep in mind that the loss of Karachi is directly proportional to the loss of the entire country.
Karachi’s development is linked to Pakistan’s development. Prime Minister Imran Khan has always given priority to solving Karachi’s problems. In this regard, the premier is likely to visit Karachi on August 12. On the other hand, the Sindh government has not taken significant steps for the betterment of Karachi.
It is the responsibility of the PPP government to take concrete steps so that the problems of the citizens of Karachi can be solved. Karachi earns highest revenue for the country, but the city is still mired in problems. Blaming each other will not solve the problem, it is imperative to take concrete steps.
