ATTOCK: A judicial magistrate on Wednesday ordered to send Sheikh Rashid Shafique, nephew of former federal minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, to jail on judicial remand.
Rashid Shafique was presented in the court amid strict security measures, as PTI activists gathered outside the court premises to protest over his arrest. The judicial magistrate expressed his displeasure over police for not presenting record regarding the case
While rejecting a plea from plea to extend his physical remand, the court sent Sheikh Rashid Shafique on 14-day-judicial remand to Attock prison.
During the last hearing, Rashid Shafique was remanded in police custody for another two days after being arrested for his alleged involvement in Madinah incident.
Sheikh Rashid Shafique was presented before the presiding judge as police sought his physical remand for seven days to probe his alleged involvement in the incident. The court approved two-day physical remand and directed police to present him on second day of Eid before the court.
Rashid Shafique was arrested on Sunday from Islamabad airport by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after returning from performing Umrah. He was nominated in a case filed against PTI leaders in Faisalabad for violating the sanctity an sloganeering at the Masjid-e-Nabwi.
Former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed had said that he along with Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and others are also booked in the case in which his nephew has been arrested by FIA.
