The Punjab government has unveiled a new transport policy for senior officials, granting access to larger luxury vehicles and substantially higher, or in some cases unlimited, petrol allocations.
The policy affects top bureaucrats, including the Chief Secretary, IG Punjab, secretaries, special secretaries, and ministers’ staff, marking a major expansion of official transport privileges compared to previous limits.
According to the notification, the Chief Secretary and the Punjab IG can each use three official vehicles, including models with 2800cc, 1800cc, and 4700cc engines. For two of these vehicles, each will receive 800 liters of petrol per month, while the 4700cc vehicle has no petrol limit.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary and Additional Chief Secretary were permitted only 1300cc and 1600cc cars, with a monthly fuel allocation of 200 liters for duty vehicles.
Under the new policy, secretaries in grades 20, 21, and 22 may use 2800cc and 1800cc vehicles, receiving unlimited petrol for official use and 200 liters for personal use. Special secretaries and DIGs in grades 19 and 20 are allotted 1600cc vehicles with 250 liters of petrol per month, an increase from the previous 1000–1300cc vehicles and 175 liters.
