KARACHI: Sindh Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah has announced the withdrawal of the one-hour extension in school timings across the province, including Karachi.
Addressing a ceremony, the Sindh education minister said that the school hours had been extended by one hour to make up for academic losses caused by floods and other extraordinary circumstances and to ensure that students could complete their courses.
He said that during the ceremony, three schoolgirls approached him and shared their difficulties regarding the late school closing time.
According to Sardar Ali Shah, the girls told him, “Uncle, we feel hungry. School ends at 2:30pm, and we reach home at 3pm. Please reduce the additional one hour you have added.”
The education minister said that after listening to the girls, he immediately decided to withdraw the additional hour and announced that the extended school timings would be discontinued with immediate effect.
Sardar Ali Shah said the government had initially introduced the additional hour because of floods and disruptions to educational activities, with the aim of helping students complete their academic syllabus. However, in view of the difficulties faced by children, the decision has now been revised.
