Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is anticipated to visit Pakistan this month, reflecting the South Asian nation’s aim to strengthen economic ties with the kingdom. The Express Tribune, citing insider sources, reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended the invitation to the crown prince, which was duly accepted.
Originally slated for late 2022, the crown prince’s visit encountered delays due to political uncertainties surrounding Pakistan’s elections. In preparation for his arrival, a group of influential Saudi entrepreneurs is currently in Islamabad, engaging in talks with their Pakistani counterparts to explore potential investment avenues.
This visit aligns with the government’s ongoing endeavors to attract Saudi investment, forming part of a broader strategy to address Pakistan’s economic challenges. Pakistan is particularly eager to secure significant investments from Gulf nations, with a specific focus on Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Riyadh had committed to expediting an initial $5 billion investment during PM Shehbaz’s prior visit to Saudi Arabia before Eid.
In furtherance of this commitment, the crown prince dispatched a high-powered delegation, led by the Saudi foreign minister, to Islamabad. This delegation, comprised of key Saudi cabinet members and close aides involved in the crown prince’s “Vision 2030” initiative, expressed optimism about Pakistan’s new investment framework following a briefing by the Special Investment Facilitation Council.
The government anticipates that the crown prince’s impending visit will translate commitments into tangible investment opportunities, fostering deeper economic collaboration between the two nations.
