KARACHI: Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), a Pakistani humanitarian group, is getting ready to supply sacrificial meat to the Gaza population in the midst of a severe humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Parts of Gaza, which is home to 2.3 million people, are in danger of famine, according to a worldwide hunger monitor. In the besieged enclave, this Eid will mark the second since Israel began a war on Hamas that has resulted in the deaths of over 35,000 Palestinians. Since Israel intensified its military operations in Rafah, which the UN claims have driven 900,000 people to evacuate, aid delivery into southern Gaza has been hindered.
One of Pakistan’s biggest humanitarian groups with a global reach, Al-Khidmat Foundation (AKF), announced on Tuesday that it would sacrifice animals in Pakistan and Egypt prior to Eid Al-Adha and work with Turkish non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to transport the meat to Gaza.
“We will sacrifice a large number of animals in Egypt to facilitate the delivery of meat from there. Additionally, we are organizing sacrifices in Pakistan because many Turkish NGOs have come to Pakistan this year and prefer the sacrifices to be done here,” said Qazi Sadaruddin, a director at AKF, was quoted as saying in Arab News.
He added that there is an “overwhelming” demand among Pakistanis to send meat to victims of Israel’s war on Gaza, who they believe deserve it the most.
“The meat from Pakistan will be converted into ready-to-eat form before dispatching, as sending raw meat is very difficult,” Sadaruddin explained. “We have booked the whole slaughterhouse, and it is estimated that 3,000 to 4,000 animals will be slaughtered at the Al-Khidmat platform, converted into ready-to-eat meat, and sent to Gaza.”
He mentioned that inquiries are continuously coming in from Pakistani clients about how they can send meat to the Palestinian people.
