ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will leave for Turkey on a three-day visit on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral ties and seek foreign investment.
The premier is visiting Turkey on the invitation of President Tayyip Erdogan. A high-level delegation will accompany the prime minister on the tour.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said the visit is part of the series of visits for the renewal of bilateral relations with Pakistan’s traditional trusted friends and brotherly countries.
In addition to promoting relations between the two countries, the minister said the visit would be important for enhancing cooperation in investment, trade, health, education, culture, and other areas of mutual interest.
The minister said that Pak-Turkish Business Council will hold meetings with Turkish investors and businessmen. The prime minister will also pay a visit to the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Attaturk during his visit.
Accompanied by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the prime minister will issue a commemorative plaque on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Pakistan. President Erdogan will host a dinner in honour of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The last interaction between the leaders of the two countries came when the Turkish president called Shehbaz Sharif to congratulate him on his election as prime minister.
In the phone call, Erdogan “wished that the election results would be beneficial for the friendly and brotherly people of Pakistan”.
Erdogan had said he closely follows developments in Pakistan and both countries are bound by a deep-rooted history, friendship and brotherhood. “Turkey is ready to support Pakistan in all manners as it has done so far,” he had said.
This is the prime minister’s third foreign visit since he assumed office on April 11. Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif visited Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on official visits.
