Pakistan’s inflation touches 12-month high in October

Pakistan’s consumer prices climbed at their fastest pace in twelve months, with annual inflation reaching 6.2 percent in October 2025, data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed.

According to a report, the figure was higher than 5.6 percent recorded in September 2025 but slightly lower than 7.2 percent in the same month last year. Analysts at Arif Habib Limited noted that inflation has now touched its highest point since October 2024.

On a month-to-month basis, prices went up by 1.8 percent in October 2025, following a 2.0 percent increase a month earlier. During October 2024, the same indicator had shown a 1.2 percent rise.

In urban centers, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 6.0 percent year-on-year, slightly above September’s 5.5 percent but below 9.3 percent reported in October 2024. The month-on-month change for cities was steady at 1.5 percent, mirroring the previous month, while a year earlier the rise had been 1.1 percent.

Rural inflation quickened to 6.6 percent on an annual basis in October 2025, compared with 5.8 percent a month earlier and 4.2 percent in the same period last year. Month-on-month, the rural CPI increased by 2.3 percent, easing from September’s 2.8 percent but higher than 1.5 percent in October 2024.

The Sensitive Price Index (SPI), which tracks essential commodities, recorded a 4.8 percent annual rise in October 2025, up from 4.5 percent in the previous month but well below 9.7 percent a year earlier. On a monthly scale, it advanced by 0.9 percent compared to 2.0 percent in September and 0.6 percent in October 2024.

Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation edged up by 1.1 percent year-on-year in October 2025, slightly higher than 0.6 percent in September and lower than 3.9 percent a year earlier. On a monthly basis, wholesale prices held steady at 0.5 percent, identical to the prior month, while no change had been recorded in October 2024.
