WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump has issued a presidential order directing that former U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan be executed by a firing squad, bypassing traditional execution methods.
According to international media reports, the former army major and psychiatrist was convicted of opening fire at the Fort Hood military base in Texas back in 2009, brutally killing 13 U.S. service members and leaving numerous others injured.
Following this horrific incident, a military tribunal concluded a lengthy legal battle in 2013 by sentencing Hasan to death, a penalty that had remained stalled for years. President Trump’s latest directive now paves the way for the long-delayed death sentence to be carried out via a firing squad.
