Pakistani surgeon dies of COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia

SAUDI ARABIA: Saudi Arabia has mourned the death of a Pakistani surgeon who succumbed to the novel COVID-19 after developing health complications.
The Director-General of Makkah Health Affairs, Dr Wael Hamzah Mutair said that the healthcare professionals are saddened by Naeem’s death, and the city has lost one of its most skilled and prominent general surgeons.
Mutair paid a rich tribute to Dr Chaudhry and noted that he had played an integral role in the front line battle against COVID-19 in the country.
According to details, Pakistani surgeon, Naeem Chaudhry is the first doctor in Saudi Arabia who has succumbed to the virus while battling out the contagion on the front line.
He worked in the General Surgery Department at Hira General Hospital in Makkah. He contracted COVID-19 while performing his duties although he was only suffering from the ailment of high blood pressure, according to reports. Dr Chaudhry is survived by a wife and three daughters.
According to a statement from the Saudi Saudi Ministry of Health, the country has reported 2,591 new COVID-19 cases and 31 virus-related deaths, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the kingdom to 95,748 and death toll to 642.
As many as 1,651 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the kingdom to 70,616, said the statement.
It added most of the new infections were recorded again in the capital Riyadh followed by Jeddah, Makkah and Hufof with 459, 254, 129 and 102 cases respectively.
