A Pakistani peacekeeper lost his life in an ambush by militants on a convoy of Pakistani Peacekeepers in Abyei, a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan, as stated by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Monday.
The statement reported that the Pakistani peacekeepers effectively responded to the ambush, forcing the militants to retreat. However, during the exchange of gunfire, Sepoy Muhammad Tariq from Badin, Sindh, sacrificed his life, and two officers along with two others sustained injuries.
The convoy was en route to a hospital, escorting two local patients.
The Inter-Services Public Relations highlighted the professionalism and dedication to duty exhibited by Pakistan’s peacekeeping contingents. With a solemn acknowledgment of the sacrifices made, it was mentioned that 181 Pakistani peacekeepers have laid down their lives while serving the cause of peace globally.
The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s commitment as a responsible member of the international community, pledging to continue contributing to global peace and stability under the United Nations auspices.
