The government of Pakistan has increased the price of jet fuel by more than Rs40 per litre, a move that analysts say could lead to higher airfares for passengers.
According to official details, the price of jet fuel has been raised by Rs40.35 per litre, bringing the new rate for commercial aviation fuel to Rs291.55 per litre.
Analysts noted that the latest adjustment means jet fuel prices have increased by Rs53.58 per litre over the past two weeks, significantly raising operating costs for airlines.
Officials said the increase reflects higher international crude oil prices and aligns with global market trends.
The latest adjustment follows the government’s recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, which has already prompted the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance to announce a 15% increase in freight charges nationwide.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan has urged the government to abolish toll taxes, withholding tax, and penalties imposed on transporters, arguing that the sector has received no meaningful relief despite rising operating costs.
He said many transport operators have been forced to suspend operations because of mounting financial pressure.
