The National Institute of Electronics (NIE), operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has marked a significant achievement by transforming an 800cc fuel-powered car into an electric vehicle.
According to a ProPakistani report, the electric car made its debut at an expo hosted by Allama Iqbal Open University. The vehicle is equipped with a 10-kilowatt motor powered by a battery. Zawar Hussain, the General Director of NIE, revealed that the institute is actively working on finalizing the car to ensure full functionality.
Meanwhile, the electric car market in Pakistan is experiencing growth with the introduction of various models by different companies. Hyundai Nishat, for instance, recently launched the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 in the local market. The IONIQ 5 is priced at Rs. 22,500,000, while the IONIQ 6 costs Rs. 23,000,000, according to the company’s announcement.
Bookings for these new models opened on March 1, 2024, with an estimated delivery time of 4-5 months. Customers are required to make a 50% payment at the time of booking, with the remaining 50% due upon delivery. The strides made by the NIE and the ongoing developments in the electric car market in Pakistan reflect a growing interest and investment in sustainable and innovative transportation solutions.
