Indian’s Bajaj Auto is set to launch the world’s first CNG bike in June, according to MD Rajiv Bajaj in CNBC-TV18.
Discussing the concept behind the forthcoming product category, Bajaj explained, “The motivation stems from two key aspects. Firstly, there’s a strong environmental consideration. Through rigorous testing, we’ve observed a remarkable reduction in emissions compared to conventional gasoline motorcycles, with CO2 down by nearly 50%, CO by 75%, and non-methane hydrocarbons by 90%. Thus, this motorcycle holds great potential for environmental preservation. “
The upcoming bike will cater to mileage-conscious consumers and is slated for release under a distinct brand.
It’s anticipated that CNG bikes will carry a higher price tag than their petrol counterparts due to increased manufacturing costs, including the incorporation of a specialized tank to offer both petrol and CNG fuel options for customer convenience.
Moreover, Bajaj announced that the Pulsar, launched two decades ago, is on the verge of reaching the milestone of 2 million units sold.
Meanwhile, the Bajaj Group has pledged Rs 5,000 crore towards social impact initiatives over the next five years, focusing on skill development, under ‘Bajaj Beyond,’ the conglomerate’s new umbrella identity for all its CSR and charitable endeavors.
