ISLAMABAD: After hours of discussion, opposition parties at All Parties Conference (APC) has demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, and announced to form a new alliance named ‘Pakistan Democratic Movement’ to oust the ‘selected’ government.
The opposition parties also issued a 26-point resolution, which states that the forum – Pakistan Democratic Movement – will lead and guide nationwide protests against the incumbent government in a disciplined and integrated manner.
Addressing a press conference, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the selected government has been granted artificial stability by the establishment that has imposed it on the people through rigged elections.
According to Maulana Fazl, the meeting expressed extreme concern over the increasing interference of the establishment in internal affairs of the country. “The interference of the establishment is danger to the nation’s stability and institutions,” he added.
The alliance also demanded transparent elections in the country and calls for electoral reforms. “The selected government has ruined the common man’s life with record-high inflation, unemployment, and taxes,” he stated.
The newly formed forum also termed the Parliament a rubber stamp, saying that the opposition will not cooperate with the government in the legislative process. PDM also agreed upon a six-point action plan to depose the incumbent government, which would be implemented in phases.
In the first phase that starts in October, opposition parties will hold joint rallies in all four provinces. Secondly, the opposition will hold “huge public demonstrations” across the country in December.
The third phase will begin in January next year, during which the opposition will set out on a “decisive long march” towards Islamabad. “We will also enlist lawyers, traders, farmers, students, and media in the movement,” Maulana Fazal added.
