LAHORE: Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) has said 81 students have tested positive for the novel COVID-19 in various schools in Punjab.
As per details, the COVID-19 has been detected in 81 students in the province after conducting tests of 763 students on Wednesday.
The Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department (P&SHD) spokesperson said samples of 39,296 students have been tested and 38,716 students were declared COVID-19 free after tests.
Among 763 newly-tested students, two children were found affected with COVID-19 in Lahore, nine in Nankana Sahib, 12 in Gujrat, 45 in Gujranwala, one in Dera Ghazi Khan, two in Bhakkar, seven in Faisalabad, one in Lodharan, one in Bahawalpur and one child was found affected in Toba Tek Singh so far.
The P&SHD urged the school administrations, teachers and students to follow the SOPs for their protection. On Monday, more than 50 students, three teachers and a staffer tested positive for the novel COVID-19 in various schools in Punjab.
Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department Secretary Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman had confirmed that 51 students and three teachers were diagnosed with COVID-19.
He said that nine classrooms of various educational institutions have been sealed for violation of guidelines issued by the government.
Usman said various teams of the health department had taken samples of 28,887 students. Of them, results of 6,168 students came out negative while 41 students were diagnosed with the virus.
Schools, colleges and universities across Pakistan reopened last Tuesday, ending a nearly six-month-long closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to details shared by the education department Balochistan, so far four universities of the province including Agriculture and Watermarine, Engineering University Khuzdar and others have been closed till September 26 after the surge in COVID-19 cases.
