ISLAMABAD: Additional Session Judge Zeba Chaudhry on Monday awarded death sentences to 2 cops convicted for murdering Osama Nadeem Satti, 21,on Jan 2 in the year 2021. The court awarded death sentences to two cops of Anti-Terror Force, Iftikhar and Muhammad Mustafa, and life sentences to 3 ATC cops, Saeed, Shakil and Mudassir. The court also imposed Rs.100,000 fine each on death row convicts Iftikhar and Mustafa.
Before announcing the verdict, the Additional Session Judge expelled media and other unauthorized personnel from the court room.
Accused Iftikhar Ahmed, Saeed Ahmed, Shakeel Ahmed, Muhammad Mustafa and Mudassir Mukhtar were handcuffed when produced in the court.
The Court had reserved the judgement on January 31, which was announced today.
A joint investigation team (JIT), meanwhile, had confirmed that Osama Satti was murdered by officials of the Crisis Response Team (CRT) of the Anti-Terrorism Squad of the police, and that five policemen including a driver, fired at the car of Mr Satti with intention to kill the driver instead of neutralising him.
The JIT had revealed that the ATC cops had fired 19 bullets at the car and all the bullets entered the vehicle from the rear, rear left and rear right sides. The firing was opened from a distance of five to 10 feet and the rear left side and rear right sides were targeted from a distance of 12 feet and 15 feet, respectively.
Majority of the bullets were fired from a height of five feet, the officers said, adding 22 bullet shells were also found in different parts of Sringar Highway, including the crime scene where the car was stopped.
Four bullets were fired from a 9mm pistol, 17 from an SMG and one from another SMG, the officers said.
