LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar will appear before the NAB today in liquor license case.
The Punjab Chief Minister has been summoned to record the statement along with relevant documents in the case. The NAB had received a complaint that Usman Buzdar had misused his powers to issue liquor licenses.
The Lahore bureau received an application against the issuance of a liquor license to a private hotel against the law and regulations. As per NAB documents, the private hotel applied to the Excise Department for an L-2 category license for the sale of liquor.
The private hotel did not obtain a 4-5 star rating license from the Punjab Tourist Department under the Pakistan Hotels Act 1976. A policy was issued by the CM’s office in 2009 regarding the licensing of 4 and 5-star hotels, which was violated.
Under the CM policy, only hotels with a 4 or 5-star category can be issued a license. Under the CM Policy 2009, hotels that do not have this category will not be eligible for a license.

Excise and Taxation Department issued a license to a private hotel in violation of CM Policy 2009. The Excise Department issued a license to a private hotel in 2019 against the law.
Yesterday, the Punjab Chief Minister had said that even if the NAB called him ten times, he would go and show everything. “Our government has been criticized from day one,” he said. There is organized propaganda against us. I will appear in NAB,” he added.
