LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaaf (PTI) Imran Khan has said that those sitting in the federal government brought about amendments in the accountability laws to protect against their corruption.
Addressing a convention of trade union workers, Imran Khan said “if I am a public office holder, I would have to declare my assets.”
He said I brought all my wealth, earned through cricket, to Pakistan and had to declare my assets even though I wasn’t holding any public office and gave money trail of my past earnings dated back to 40 years.
He asked if a cricketer could give a money trail, why a three-time Prime Minister couldn’t do the same. He said another NRO was given by providing relaxation and acquittal in different cases.
Severely criticizing recent amendments made to the NAB laws, Imran Khan asked how such a blatant theft could be allowed in a poverty-ridden country.
Imran Khan said India was purchasing fuel from Russia at cheaper rates, while on the other hand, Pakistan’s international ratings had gone down. He said the PDM govt that came into power with the promise of reducing inflation, while the same has broken all records in the history of Pakistan.
He said in Faisalabad’s textile industry we had record employment, today the textile industry is suffering like never before
He said there could never be such a major enmity against Pakistan than the NRO given to them [current federal figures]. “When Nawaz Sharif accepted the wealth abroad belonged to him, why shouldn’t he be asked to give money trail,” he asked.
