KARACHI: Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai accompanied by Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho, Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah and Shahzad Roy of Zindagi Trust visited the areas worst hit by recent flash floods in the province.
She is visiting Pakistan to assess the current situation in different parts of the country that has been battered by recent devastating rains and floods.
Commenting on her visit, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah praised Malala and said her visit would help highlight the humanitarian crisis at the international level.
On his arrival at Juhi’s Chandan area, Malala was briefed by the Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah about the extent and magnitude of devastation caused by the flood.
Sardar Shah said the education of some 2 million students affected in some 12,000 schools in flood-hit areas, while some areas were still inundated with flood water.
Speaking on this occasion, Malala told the female flood victims that they were brave as she listened to their plight due to the climate-induced calamity. She expressed concern over the damage caused to the schools and the loss of education for children.
Malala Yousafzai in the first leg of her tour visited an elementary school in the Central District of Karachi and remained there for an hour yesterday.
