QUETTA: The Balochistan district of Rakhni and surrounding areas were jolted by a magnitude 5 earthquake on Wednesday, sending residents rushing into the streets in panic, though authorities have so far reported no loss of life or property.
The National Seismological Centre (NSC) recorded the tremor at a depth of 30km, with its epicentre located approximately 12km southeast of Rakhni. The sudden shaking caused widespread alarm among locals, many of whom were seen exiting their homes while reciting the Kalima Tayyaba in a bid for divine protection.
Despite the intensity of the tremors, rescue officials stated that initial assessments revealed no structural damage or injuries. However, emergency response teams have been put on high alert and are actively monitoring the situation to ensure swift action should any secondary issues arise.
